Carefree vacation homes on Hornby Island

Regenerative Tourism on Hornby

Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much. - Anne Keller

Regenerative Tourism strives to leave things better than we found them and brings visitors together with the local community. It’s as easy as buying groceries from one of our wonderful roadside stands or supporting a local business. Or go a step further and connect with some amazing locals who offer everything from Sound Bathing and Yoga to Fishing Charters and Ocean Tours. We can even help connect you with an art or cooking lesson. Whatever your passion, we hope the ideas on this page enrich your vacation.

Sustainability

One of the greatest community concerns is the lack of sufficient groundwater, a shared resource especially scarce during summer when supply is lowest and demand the highest.

To save water, we ask our visitors to bring their own linens for both bed and bath.

While you are here:

    • take short Navy-showers
    • shower every other day or two
    • be mellow with flushing
    • avoid running taps
    • wash laundry when you get home

Appreciate Nature with respect:

    • leave rocks and sea creatures on the beach
    • pick up litter where you see it
    • stay on marked trails
    • slow down on our country roads to keep deer, pets, kids and elders safe
    • enjoy your time here quietly

Our entire community is grateful for considerate visitors.

Take Part…

The Hornby Recycling Depot was born from a community vision that now leads the world in recycling, re-purposing and reducing landfill.

The Hope Kitchen provides meals to anyone and everyone and builds community; they gratefully accept donations of unopened food, vegetables and fruit as well as financial support.  Taylor would approve.
